What To Do Before You Sell Your iPhone

Unlock Your Phone
An unlocked phone of any kind is a phone that can be used on any cellular service. What does this mean for you? Most iPhones come unlocked, but some do not. Your first step in unlocking your phone should be to contact your cell phone service provider. Back Your Phone Up
Before you head off to sell your phone, make sure you have an up to date backup of your iPhone. This includes your contacts, passwords, account logins, pictures, music, videos and more. There are two ways to back your phone up; via a connection to a computer through a cable, or on iCloud. We recommend using iCloud for ease of use. To create your backup, please follow the instructions below.
- Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Make sure your phone is above 50% battery life, or plug it into a wall.
- Launch your Settings application from your home screen.
- Tap on your Apple ID Banner, at the top of your screen.
- Tap on iCloud
- Scroll down to tap on iCloud Backup
- Tap on Back Up Now
Erase Your Personal Data
Once your data is safely backed up, it’s time to head back into the screen you were previously on to disable find my iPhone. With this feature enabled you will be able to remotely lock your device, and most people will not buy it from you. To turn it off head back into Settings > Apple ID Banner > iCloud > Scroll Down to Find My iPhone > Toggle to Off. After completing this step, we will erase your entire phone, and all of it’s content and information.
- Launch the Settings app again from the home screen
- Tap on General
- Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap on Reset
- Tap on Erase All Content and Settings
- Tap on Erase iPhone
- Tap on Erase iPhone again to confirm
- Enter your Passcode, if applicable
Clean Up Your Phone’s Housing & Case
When looking to sell your iPhone, a lot of its value will be determined by how clean and aesthetically pleasing its condition is. Your phone should not only be clean on the inside, but also on the outside and free from dust or debri.
When cleaning your device make sure to only use water or a chemical that says it’s specifically intended for the use of electronics. Take note to clean off any smudges, oil, dirt or stains from all sides. In addition, you may consider taking a tooth pick with and clearing out any dust or grime from around the seams of the device.
Make sure to also clean all accessories and your case, wiping them all down individually, as these parts will also add to the total resale value of your phone.

Example: if your phone is in less than mint condition with 64GB of storage, do not base what you believe your phones value is off of a 128GB phone in mint condition iPhone.
