How To Prevent Future iPhone Damages

Here are some of our quick tips from our technicians about how to prevent future phone damages. Taking extra precautions can help reduce your device’s down time in the future and lower the cost of any repairs.

  1. Screen Protectors – Make sure to get a screen protector to help reduce scratches to the glass of your device. If you should ever choose to sell it, keeping your screen scratch free will help you do so in the future.
  2. Device Cases – Getting a iphone case can mean the difference between having to replace your whole LCD screen or picking up your device, dusting it off and walking away with it unscratched.
  3. Don’t Overcharge – Overcharging your device is a very common mistake. While some manufacturers limit the current to the battery after a iphone is completely charged, many do not. For best results, charge to 100% and put the device in Airplane mode overnight when you are asleep.
  4. Use Common Sense – Don’t use your iphone around pools or leave it un attended when there are children and pets around. While apple has built an extremely rugged case for your device, accidents still happen.

How to Repair Android Software Issues from Minor to Major

Sometimes, it’s mostly your phone’s software that has an issue and not the hardware itself. These problems range from minor to major in terms of how difficult they are to implement and the consequences of the fix.

Minor Fixes: Apps

If the problem with your phone is that it’s way too slow, then the way to fix this could start with just uninstalling some of the apps on your phone. You can do this by going into your app drawer, and then tapping and hold on any app you don’t really need. Then, you drag the app icon over to the uninstall option. Some apps aren’t the kind you can uninstall based on your phone. This is because some phones have what is called “bloatware.” This means that your phone company partnered with the maker of the phone and made it so that some apps will stay on the phone no matter what.

Depending on the phone, it may be possible to at least uninstall all the updates for the app, deactivate it, and remove it from the main screen, which will at least help a little.

Minor Fixes: Junk

It’s also important to wipe the browser of cookies from time to time. These files can really build up and cause a huge slowdown in your machine over the long run. You can usually wipe cookies through the browser settings option for the Android version of Chrome. This can also go a long way to clean up your phone’s operation since chances are good you’ll be using it to do browsing on the internet frequently if not as the primary function of the device.

Moderate Fixes: A/V

Another reason why the software on your phone is failing to work is because you have some issue with viruses. There are actually are plenty of mobile device viruses these days including for Android even if they are less numerous than those on PC. An example might include the Heartbleed bug. If you’ve exhausted other means of fixing software issues with your phone, then one useful option is to download an antivirus app from the app store.

You can then do a scan with the app which will take a few minutes, and finally remove any viruses causing problems with your phone’s operation. There are a number of different options including Norton, McAfee, and others. Just about any app that you can download on the  Google Play Store for apps that’s on your phone as a default should be acceptable, as long as it has good enough ratings. Even then, the app will likely just have efficacy problems without being actively dangerous, since Google Play does test for that ahead of time.

Phone Wipe

If nothing you do seems to work out, the best thing to do is call a professional. If you can’t, or if that still doesn’t work for whatever reason, then the last resort is to do a factory reset of your phone and start over.

The way to do this in Android is to hold down the power button and the Volume down button at the same time. Then, you’ll get a boot screen. At this screen, you have the option to do a “factory wipe.” You have to hit the volume down button until you get to this option and then you need to hit the power button in order to select it.

Before you do, however, it’s important to make sure that you have a plan your data. If possible, you should do a backup of the data first. If you don’t need to backup any of the data like phone numbers, contacts, or anything else because it’s saved on Google’s cloud, then you’re good, of course.

Other Options

It’s also worth noting that there are other things that you can do with the boot screen if you want to make sure you can correct some kind of software issue. Instead of a full factory reset, for example, you could load previous versions of the operating system your phone currently has. This can often be done from the bootloader when it comes to phones like a Nexus, but it could be done using a different approach with a different phone.

In general, you will also need software on a PC or laptop in order to load something onto the phone. This could be a previous version, which will generally be freely available online, or it could be an entirely different ROM. There are other versions of Android you can install if the one you have isn’t working for you. The famous one is called Cyanogen with its successor Lineage OS, and it’s often free to install. It is true that this could potentially cause problems with your warranty, however, so you should only do it if you’re not worried about this and if you are confident enough in figuring out a process which is often highly technical in nature.

Ultimately though, you’ll have to decide exactly how much speed is necessary for your phone to be fixed, because there are definitely baked in limitations to the natural android operating systems. Other ROMs like Cyanogen are designed to allow for things like faster transitions and speedier navigation in general for your phone, after all.

In the end, you’re probably going to have your best luck if you go to a professional who can help you figure out exactly what you want from your software.

Ways to Handle Water Damaged Phones

Dropping your phone accidentally into the ocean, or having it in your pocket when you get sprayed by a squirt gun, getting caught out in the rain, or any number of other water-based disasters can be a real downer when it comes to your phone’s functioning. Fortunately, there are some real solutions to fixing your phone available these days that could work depending on your situation.

Turn Off Phone Immediately

Electricity and water are not friends. If the phone was substantially dunked and doesn’t have any kind of water resistance rating that’s good enough for what happened to it, then you need to remove it from the water, power it down, and take it apart. This is largely because water could further damage the phone if you don’t. If you get the battery out and dry it, then you could prevent further damage. It’s good to start with a towel and to hold up the phone and let a lot of the water leak out of it first.

Dry with Compressed Air

Anything you can do to speed up the drying of the phone is going to be a great help. Every second it stays wet is a second where something can go wrong. So, run to your phone’s rescue and shoot it with a bunch of compressed air from a can of air like what you’d use to clear out dust from your computer.

You don’t want to use a hair dryer or anything else that uses heat because this could damage the phone all by itself. Instead, hold your phone parts level next to the compressed air, and really give it some air. Make sure you don’t tip it too much because this can often cause the compressed air to leak. You want to evaporate the water in your phone, and in the battery and cover, as quick as you can.

The Rice Trick

The idea with this one is that your phone may not be working because moisture got into the battery and it’s preventing it from functioning. So, if you take out the battery and put a pile of raw rice on top of it, then the hope is that the dry rice will soak up the moisture, even if there’s just a tiny amount of it.

Then, if moisture was the problem, you can replace the battery back in the phone and it will activate again, thus solving the problem. If it doesn’t, you may have to try something else, of course. And obviously, this is only going to apply to phones that have a removable battery. In other words, don’t try jamming rice into a phone that doesn’t work because you got it wet. You’ll likely only compound your problems. You can also use silicone packets for this as well. You’ll want to put it in a plastic bag or other container and completely cover the affected parts. It also helps to put the phone in the bag somewhere a bit warm. One common place to try this is the top of a refrigerator.

Then, you wait about 12 hours or so. A full day if you want to be thorough. At this point, put the phone back together, and if it works, well then good. If not, then you’ll have to try something else.

Freeze It Up

If the rice doesn’t do the trick, then it’s time to try and freeze the phone into submission.  First, make sure the battery is removed. Then, you get a couple sheets of paper towel and put the phone on top of it. You don’t want the bottom of the phone to become damaged from frost, after all. Next, set the timer for around 20 minutes, and then pop it in the freezer.

After your timer goes off, bring the phone out, put the battery back in, and see if it works. If you’re still striking out, you can wait about 10 minutes and then put it back in the freezer again for another attempt of about 20 minutes, removing the battery again first, of course. Electrical components are generally totally fine when it comes to the cold, but the screen can sometimes be an issue. You may want to double-check that your particular phone screen is tolerant to colder temperatures before trying this, certainly.

The idea here is that freezing the phone will make tiny bits of water inside the phone turn into ice. Then, when you turn the phone on, the ice won’t short out the phone the way liquid water did previously. The problem with this approach is that when the phone thaws, the water could become an issue again, depending on where it goes. It could cause a short, it could even cause further problems through melting and freezing due to the contracting and expanding properties of water during a freeze.

But, if your phone is totally dead anyway, it’s often worth a shot.

Other Options

There are also professional options for drying out the phone too, including special materials that are designed specifically for that purpose. Generally, you should buy these things ahead of time, though, if you’re at all worried about tripping and chucking your phone into your pool, or if you just know that your accident prone in this way.

Professional phone techs may have their own options as well. For more information about how to repair your phone in a number of different situations, why your phone randomly restarts, and what to do if you spill water on a laptop, you should contact us today.

Don’t Pay an Arm and a Leg to Get Your Macbook Repaired at the Apple Store

If you are the owner of an Apple Macbook, you probably take incredibly good care of your computer. People who own Apple products generally pride themselves in their ownership and are extra vigilant in making sure that their computer remains in immaculate condition. However, no matter how careful you may be, things can always happen. Maybe you drop your computer and crack the screen or mess up the keyboard. Or maybe, heaven forbid, you spill coffee or water all over it and it no longer does what you need it to do and would function better as a doorstop at this point. If you have ever been in this position, you know how ridiculously high the cost of repair can be at the Apple Store. This probably would cause you to become incredibly stressed out as you try to figure out what you are going to do about your computer because you do not want to have to pay an arm and a leg to get your Macbook repaired. When things like this happen, you may find yourself wishing you had a cheaper alternative. The good news is, you actually do!

Tips to Make Your Macbook Last Longer

Even if you are getting a good deal on your Macbook repair, no one likes to deal with a broken computer. With that in mind, here are some tips and helpful recommendations to keep in mind so that you can make your Macbook last longer. Besides, as an owner of an Apple product, we know how important it is to you to keep your computer in immaculate condition.

  • Do not overload your drive: One thing to keep in mind when it comes to the care of your Apple computer is not putting too much on your hard drive. A good rule of thumb is to keep 5-10% free in order to keep it from running too slow. This will ensure that your computer is not working too hard and help it last longer as well as well as keeping you happy at how fast your computer is running.
  • Restore your laptop yearly: Of course, you will want to backup your computer first, but after you have done that, restoring your laptop will help it run like new. Just another simple task to help increase the longevity of your computer.
  • Do not leave your computer plugged in: It may seem like it is just easier to leave your computer plugged in all the time but this is actually bad for your battery and will wear it down. If you only plug your computer in when it is running low, you will help to ensure that your batter lasts for a long time and will keep you from needing to have it replaced.

Why Leave iPhone/Android Phone Repair To The Professionals? Nine Reasons

So you’ve dropped your phone in the toilet, down a flight of stairs, or off the balcony. The phone has a cracked screen, water damage, or internal trauma, and you’re devastated. After calming down, you’ll have to make a choice between buying a new phone, trying to repair the phone yourself, or taking the phone into a professional repair service. While you could buy a new phone, you’ll want to make sure this isn’t more expensive than repairing your current phone. Only a professional has the insight to diagnose a phone and provide an accurate estimate for its repair. Here are nine more reasons why professional iPhone/Android phone repair is the way to go.

Trying DIY Voids Your Warranty

Smartphone manufacturers provide warranties to cover repair costs in the case of technical failures. In addition, carriers offer insurance to provide coverage for repair costs. Once a phone breaks, users often attempt to repair the phone on their own rather than take advantage of warranty and insurance to pay for professional repair. Perhaps they feel as though they don’t have the time to wait for a repair shop, or they’re overconfident about their technical skills. Unfortunately, if they open the phone and make the problem worse, they void the warranty. That’s why leaving the phone alone and taking it to a repair shop is better than a DIY attempt.

Finding Parts Often Proves Difficult

The average smartphone user isn’t as likely to find appropriate parts for their phone as a repair shop is. Repair shops have connections within the industry and can access unique parts to fix a certain smartphone. Sometimes users think they’re ordering the right part to fix a phone themselves, but the part ends up not working. They’ve now wasted their money on an inappropriate part plus shipping costs for that part.

You Could Make The Problem Worse

The innards of a smartphone are highly complex, and a repair person needs certain knowledge, skills, and experience to do the job right. The slightest mistake or oversight can worsen the damage and make the problem more complicated. This means higher repair costs when you do bring the phone to a shop, and now that you’ve voided the warranty, you’ll have to cover these costs.

You Risk Battery Damage

As technology has progressed, the removable cell phone battery has become a rarity. If a user has to remove a battery, that user has to buy a special kit for opening up the device. Even with the kit, the task is challenging and requires some technical skill. One wrong move can damage the battery or surrounding structures. When the battery is out, it also gathers dust particles, which transfer to the phone’s innards once replaced.

You Don’t Have The Right Tools

Opening up a smartphone requires tools that average smartphone users don’t have lying around the house. That’s why many smartphone users who attempt DIY repair use inappropriate tools. Tools such as eyeglass screwdrivers, butter knives, and guitar picks are too harsh on delicate smartphone structures. While you could buy professional tools, they’re costly, and you’ll probably just use them once. You might as well take the phone to someone who has not only the right tools but also the expertise to know what they’re doing.

You Don’t Have Insight From Experience

The odds are that an average smartphone user doesn’t have past experience of opening up hundreds of smartphones and making repairs to them. With experience comes insight to correctly diagnose and repair problems, and that’s what professionals have. Watching online tutorials isn’t the same thing as being experienced. The savvy person in the tutorial video probably makes the repair look a lot easier than it actually is.

You Might Choose Bogus Parts

In your quest to find replacement parts, you could end up purchasing a bogus version of a part. This happens when shady retailers sell cheap parts made of low-quality or inappropriate material. Professionals look at smartphone parts all day, and they can tell a bogus version of a part from the real deal. Repair shops wouldn’t damage their reputations by repairing phones with cheap parts. Instead, they buy real parts in large quantities to provide to their customers.

Losing Parts Is Easy

When you take a smartphone apart, you’ll have many screws and tiny pieces to keep track of. DIY smartphone repair people often lose these little parts. They roll off a table and under large structures or into the depths of carpet fibers. Finding them again is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Professionals have sophisticated ways of keeping track of these small pieces during a repair.

The Problem Isn’t Always Obvious

Smartphone innards connect in ways that aren’t obvious to the untrained eye. While a user may assume the problem lies in one part, it often actually exists in another. Smartphone repair professionals have appropriate knowledge, training, and experience to know which parts to evaluate and repair.

The Growth of Biometric Authentication

Passwords are a notoriously poor way for people to get secure access to their accounts. It’s not actually passwords that are the problem, but people. Everybody likes to do things with the least amount of effort possible, and for a lot of us that includes choosing passwords. We’d like something we’ll be sure to remember, but that usually means something that’s easy for others to guess. Passwords like “password” and “123456” are so common that anyone who uses them might as well not have a password at all.

A large part of the problem is that we have so many passwords for different sites. Coming up with a different password for each site is a pain. Password managers help with this, but most phones don’t come with one already installed, so getting one and figuring out how to use it takes some effort too.

Biometrics: Better than passwords?

It’s just easy to fall into the habit of choosing bad passwords. We find it hard to imagine we’re important enough to go after. But when we find out we’re wrong, it’s bad news.

There are other phone technologies that can make security easier. The basic problem is to show that you, the person logging into an account, are the same person who opened the account. One was to do this is to examine some part of your body that doesn’t change much over time and is different for every person. This approach is called biometrics.

Fingerprinting yourself

Fingerprints are a popular choice. We have our hands on our phones all the time, so it’s not a big step to put a thumb on a sensor. Currently it’s mostly high-end phones that have these, but they’re gradually appearing in less expensive phones.

The biggest use for fingerprints is in unlocking phones. If you can keep strangers from using your phone, they can’t use it to get into your online accounts. PINs for unlocking phones have the same problem as passwords; it’s too easy to settle on obvious combinations like “1234.” Unlocking a phone with a fingerprint takes even less effort than entering a PIN, and it’s difficult to fake.

There are several different kinds of fingerprint scanners.

  • The optical scanner takes a photograph of your fingerprint. It can get very high resolution compared to other methods, but it’s easier to fool by putting a picture of a fingerprint in front of it.
  • The capacitive scanner works electrically. It can “see” the ridges of your fingerprint, which are in contact with the scanner, and the gaps, where your skin is a little farther away. It can recognize the difference between three-dimensional human flesh and a flat picture or even a cast.
  • The ultrasonic scanner uses high-frequency sound waves to take the fingerprint’s ultrasound picture. Like the capacitive scanner, it sees a three-dimensional image, so a picture won’t fool it. This is a fairly new technology for phones, but it could offer advantages. An ultrasonic scanner can operate through metal or glass, so it can be better protected than a capacitive scanner.

Facial recognition

Some phones and financial services are following a different biometric route: taking a picture of your face. One of its simpler forms is Face Unlock on Android phones. Android says it’s not a secure feature; it’s far too easy to fool it with a still picture of the owner. A good PIN is better security.

Others, though, have come up with more secure forms of facial recognition. Its use for making payments (often called “selfie pay”) is a growing niche. MasterCard’s Identity Check requires you to blink in order to prove you’re a live person and not a picture. Amazon has applied for a patent on a similar method, though it hasn’t brought it out for public use yet.

Scanning the eye

We’ve seen movie scenes where people walk into super-secure facilities and prove their identity by staring into a device. Scanning the retina of the eye really works. The pattern of veins in the back of your eye is as distinctive as your fingerprint. It’s not the most user-friendly form of authentication, though.

A less intimidating variant is scanning the iris of the eye. This doesn’t require bringing your phone up close and staring into it while getting a flash of light in the eye. A phone can take a picture of your iris from a distance. It’s reported to give fewer false matches than fingerprint scans by a wide margin.

How secure are they?

No method of identification is absolutely secure. We can imagine science-fiction technology that can imitate a person’s appearance, voice, fingerprints, and eyes well enough to fool any security system. The question is which is the best of the alternatives.

Security depends on how good the system is at catching spoofs. It’s not hard to get your fingerprint or picture. If a crook can duplicate it in a way that’s good enough to trick a phone, your security is completely broken. You can change your password and have a different one for each account, but you have only two eyes and ten fingerprints, and you can’t change them.

Passwords, used properly, are very secure. Used badly, they aren’t secure at all. Biometrics provide pretty good security for everyone, and saddle everyone with the same weaknesses.

Perhaps biometrics will improve to the point that they’re competitive on security with the strongest passwords, and more convenient. When that happens, they may replace passwords. For now the tradeoff is a complicated one, but in a few years just looking at your phone may be the standard way of showing that you’re you.

Buying a Used Phone? Be Careful!

You need a new smartphone, but your budget is tight. Can you save money by buying a used phone? Absolutely. You just need to be careful to avoid getting a bad deal or losing your money.

Where to buy

The first question is where and how to buy the phone. Buying something from a stranger over the internet is risky. Classified ads have a lot of good deals, but there are many cheats offering stolen or damaged goods. Some will take your money and not deliver anything.

The safest way to buy a used phone is to get a refurbished one from a manufacturer or carrier. The phone will be in good shape, and you’ll usually get a warranty. If you get a previous-generation phone, you can save a fair amount.

If you’d like to save more, you’ll have to try other channels. On Amazon or eBay, you can look for a seller with a high reputation score. It’s a bit riskier than buying a manufacturer’s refurbished phone, but you might still find it acceptable. Look for someone who accepts returns.

A store or kiosk that sells used phones is another reasonably safe option. You can examine phones till you find one that you like, and you can ask all the questions you want. Just be careful of a kiosk that opened the day before or a dealer at a flea market.

Buying from a friend, or someone a friend can personally vouch for, is also pretty safe. You can ask your social network contacts if anyone’s looking to sell a phone or knows someone who is.

Buying from a stranger is a lot riskier. If you go that route, follow every step here carefully to make sure you don’t get shafted.

What kind of phone?

Do you have a preferred operating system? Some people have strong preferences for iOS or Android. An adventurous few prefer Windows phones or even Blackberries. iPhones tend to be expensive, whether new or used, but they may be worth it to you. They have fewer security problems, if only because Apple gives their owners fewer choices about where to install software from. Android gives you many choices of models, capabilities, and price ranges.

Questions to ask

If you’re buying from a private party, ask lots of questions. Just doing that will drive many scammers away. They prefer to deal with people who’ll accept a pig in a poke.

Ask for the phone’s ID number. This is called the ESN, MEID, or IMEI. You can check it with online services such as Swappa and CheckMEND for reports that the phone has been blacklisted. Stolen phones can be blacklisted, as well as ones with accounts in arrears. Not all stolen phones will show up as blacklisted, but it helps.

Ask if the battery and camera work well, and if the phone’s ever been water damaged. You won’t necessarily get honest answers, but you’ll put the seller on notice that you’re being thorough. That can help scare away the cheats.

Phones that have replaceable batteries are better bets for buying used. Check the manufacturer’s data on the model.

Ask if the phone is locked to a network. It’s not necessarily a problem if it is, but make sure that any locations you often use can get good connections to the network.

Even if it’s unlocked, make sure your preferred carrier can handle the phone. There are GSM and CDMA phones, and carriers handle one or the other. They’re two different technologies.

Buying the phone

If you buy on eBay, PayPal is the safest way to pay. PayPal Protection will help if your purchase isn’t satisfactory, and you avoid giving anybody a credit card number.

If you’re buying from an individual, arrange an in-person meeting in a public, well-lit place. That not only reduces your chances of being mugged but makes it easier for you to examine the phone. Bring cash. If possible, bring a friend with you.

Go through this checklist, taking your time:

  • Check that the identification number matches the one you were given. On an Android phone, you can check by dialing “*#06#”.
  • Is the battery level reasonably high?
  • Does it charge when you plug in the charger? If the seller tells you the phone doesn’t come with a charger, bring your own.
  • Is it free of signs of water damage or hard use?
  • Are the screen and the camera lens free of scratches?
  • Does the Wi-Fi work?

After you buy

Before doing anything else, do a full reset on the phone. That will get rid of nearly all malware, as well as respecting the seller’s privacy. You might be tempted not to do this because the seller told you it comes with some great apps, but it’s better to avoid the risk. This advice doesn’t apply to refurbished phones from certified sellers; whatever the phone comes with should be safe.

Install security software at the first opportunity. This is good advice in general, and it gives you an extra level of protection when you don’t know your phone’s history.

Register your phone with your carrier as soon as possible, so you’re sure it works.

Final thoughts

Buying any complicated devices used has its risks. Some ways of doing it are relatively safe; others will save you more but involve a bigger chance of being cheated. Decide how badly you need to save money and what your comfort level is.

If you want to save money but are nervous about buying used, consider buying a discontinued model. You won’t get all the power and features of the latest model, but you may get enough.

Phone Repairs: When To DIY, When To Bring It In, And When To Replace It

Naturally, when an issue develops with your phone, you want to spend the least amount of money possible in fixing it. The assumption is always that a DIY method will be the quickest and cheapest fix, but when you factor in the cost of failed repair attempts and collateral damage to other phone parts, the cheap phone repair can turn into the expensive mistake in a hurry.

Likewise, there are occasions where a phone is going to be so far gone there’s no point in even attempting a repair. This guide will help you to determine what the best choice is for your particular problem: do it yourself, bring it in, or just start shopping for a new phone. DIY

  • Battery Replacement (Android phones)

If a phone isn’t dropped or smashed in some way, the most likely repair you’ll be looking at is a battery replacement at some point. Most phones use lithium-ion batteries that don’t develop a “memory” in the way that older batteries did, but they will still gradually lose their capacity as a side effect of the process of using and recharging energy. For most Android phone models, replacing a battery is as simple as popping off the cover, popping it out and inserting a new one. Unfortunately, iPhones aren’t so simple, which is why they don’t land in this category!

  • Virtual Button Replacement

Have a button that is stuck or has lost function? You can at least get a patchwork solution going by replacing it with a virtual button, assuming the defective button isn’t stuck in the active position. For Android phones, try the app Button Savior. Apple phones have their own built-in Home, Lock Screen, Volume Up and Volume Down virtual buttons that can be enabled by turning on the AssistiveTouch feature in the Accessibility menu.

  • Headphone Jack Replacement

This one comes with a big caveat — if you have a phone model that’s easy to open up, it’s usually not hard to remove the existing headphone jack and insert a new one, as there’s usually a simple plug for them attached directly to the phone’s main board.

  • Foreign Matter In A Jack Or Port

This is a big issue among those who bring their phone or tablet to the beach. Sand likes to get everywhere, including inside the various jacks and sockets of your device. Fortunately, it usually won’t go much further than that. You can swab it out either with a Q-tip or a paper clip with tape attached to the end.

  • Hairline Cracks

We recommend that you bring in a phone that has serious cracks, as it is more cost-effective to ensure the screen replacement is done the right way the first time. If the phone has a hairline crack that is only making swipes and pinches uncomfortable, however, you can avoid that and prevent the phone from further damage simply by installing a screen protector.

PROFESSIONAL REPAIR

  • Cracked Screens

It’s true that certain models of phone make it fairly easy to replace the screen, provided you don’t mind opening the phone up yourself. The problem with these DIY repairs is that you often find the phone mysteriously won’t turn on or the screen develops a flicker and visibility problems. You then end up having to bring it into a shop anyway, and you’re out the cost of the repair kit. Unless you’re a professional yourself or have done this repair successfully with your particular phone model before, it’s nearly always more cost-effective to bring it to a repair shop that gives you a competitive price first.

  • Camera Issues

A camera glass replacement is one of those things that can be easy and DIY-able if you have a model that’s easy to open, but if the phone is designed to be more resistant to opening you may well damage something else in the process. The rest of the camera is usually attached directly to the motherboard, however, so replacements and repairs should be left to the professionals.

  • Submerged/Soaked Phones

If your phone simply had water dumped over it, or was submerged for only a very short time, it’s very possibly salvageable if you power it down and remove the battery immediately after recovering it. You can try leaving it in silica gel or uncooked rice for a minimum of 48 hours to soak up any moisture trapped inside. If it still refuses to power on or has performance issues after that time, have a professional take a look at it to see if there is anything that can be done before scrapping it.

  • Battery Replacement (iPhone)

Unlike with most Android phone models, Apple does not provide you with easy access to the battery. It is possible to do this yourself with a repair kit, but if you open the phone up to find out the battery is no longer working because of a broken connector, you’ll just wind up bringing it into the shop anyway unless you’re comfortable with soldering it yourself. Early models of the iPhone also require soldering to remove and replace the battery.

REPLACE

  • Phones Submerged For More Than Several Seconds

If a phone is submerged for an extended period of time, the damage is likely too extensive for it to be recovered. Sometimes these phones will fool you by working for a while after being thoroughly dried out using the techniques described above. However, the corrosion of the internal parts is going to be very thorough, and will spread over time. You might get weeks of use out of it before parts of it start gradually failing one by one. This is the reason that many repair shops will decline to even attempt to repair a phone that has been submerged, because even if they get it back into a fully functioning state in the shop, they can’t guarantee it won’t lose function over time. If the phone is not designed to be water-resistant and it spent more than a couple of seconds submerged in something, it’s time to give serious thought to just replacing it.

Samsung Galaxy Vs. Iphone Comparison- The Race for Perfection

Samsung Galaxy and iPhone have been major rivals ever since the Galaxy first came out, and they’ve definitely pushed the other competitor to greater heights along the way. How do these two phones match up in terms of which phone is better for who? What does the future have in store for the properties, and will either eventually be victorious?

Personality Wars-Order vs. Creativity

There’s no doubt that the Apple store has some of the best apps in the world. You won’t find any genuinely terrible apps there, generally. If you want to only look through the best, and have everything be ordered, and this is your personality, then the iPhone is definitely for you. Being a casual developer, or someone who wants to learn from the ground up is also going to be harder with the iPhone. They call the App Store a “walled garden” for a good reason.

On the other hand, if you don’t mind having to sort through an absolutely huge number of apps, many of which are of poor quality, all for the sake of finding some truly creative, new ideas for your phone, than going with the Galaxy which runs Android operating system derivatives, may be the better way to go instead.

Personality Wars-Power Vs. Novelty

This really goes back and forth depending on the models you’re comparing. For example, the Galaxy S7 has twice the Ram at 4GB compared to the iPhone 6S which has 2GB. Both have a comparable chip, though the 6S has the 64-bit core. This can be generally representative of how this fight goes. Samsung often has more power on paper, with the iPhone6S having some cute little extra thing.

So, it just comes down to which interests you more most of the time? Do you want just whatever is the most powerful on paper, no matter what? Or do you like playing around with some new thing that you’ve never seen before? That can help you decide for sure.

Personality Wars-Preset vs. Customization

People definitely vary about how much they want to take personal control of their phone and customize it to their heart’s content. Android phones like the Galaxy tend to have huge options for this. Depending on your technical skill, you can change around just about every aspect of the phone from the lock screen, to the pull-down menu, to the wallpaper and everything in between.

You can get your own third-party virtual keyboard and load it with all of your own words if you don’t like the keyboard that comes stock, for example. You can make it look just like a Windows phone, you can upload all of your own images and preferences and make the phone truly your own.

The iPhone doesn’t like you messing around with this kind of thing nearly as much. The focus is on user-friendly, which generally means preset controls. It’s easy for user’s to go awry when you have a lot of customization options, after all. The iPhone has to play catch up to a lot of what Android and Galaxy has already. The rumor is that it will take until iOS 8 to get predictive text, third-party keyboards and other such features that Android and Galaxy have had for ages.

In other words, the iPhone will likely often be easier to use than the Galaxy, but it will also be slower many times when it comes to changes to the O.S., especially when it comes to all of those features that require tapping into customization on the phone considering how reticent iPhone can be about giving you access to that. This is especially the case for any features involving third parties.

Apple really doesn’t like opening up third-party access to its hardware without a tremendous amount of vetting first, so this is inevitably going to be way slower on Apple than on Galaxy.

Looking Towards the Future

The year 2017 is going to show a decisive battle with the Samsung Galaxy S8 versus the iPhone 8. This is actually a good example of the kind of fight these two devices have had and will be having apparently, for some time to come.

You see, the iPhone 8 has rumored features including an iris scanner and wireless charging simultaneously. It’s rumored that the Galaxy S8 will be matching it, except without the charging port. This extra feature is the type of thing that iPhone is often known for, after all. After all, iPhone is what started off the whole smartphone revolution in the first place.

They really know how to stay on the cutting edge of new extra features. The rumor is that the S8 will have the better dual lens camera with 16MP and 4k video recording, just beating out the 12MP of the iPhone 8. The rumor is also that the iPhone 8 will have up to 4GB of RAM whereas the S8 could have as much as 6GB of RAM. That’s a lot of RAM!

So, even in the rumors, you have some innovative tech combinations with the iPhone with more of a focus on aesthetics and some real hard-hitting hardware options with the potential Samsung Galaxy S8. Tech-heads may want to go with the Galaxy into the future, but those loyal to Apple and its beautiful designs are unlikely to be swayed by anything anyway nor should they be!
